Great Lakes Safaris, founded in 2001 by Amos Wekesa, is a Ugandan tour operator that has grown into a leading force in East African tourism. Starting with just $200 and operating from a briefcase for nine months, Wekesa built the company on a foundation of hard work, a passion for showcasing Uganda, and a commitment to excellent customer service. The company's early success was fueled by a chance encounter with a tourist who later wrote a glowing article about Uganda, leading to increased bookings and recognition. Great Lakes Safaris now offers a wide range of safari experiences, from wildlife viewing and primate tracking to cultural tours and adventure activities, in Uganda, Rwanda, and Tanzania.
